The Boulevard of Dreams
Many stories end with the abrupt line: The End. While there is nothing wrong with that per se, I do not wish my life story to end with that conclusive statement. When I am no longer here, I dream of the last line of my obituary to be, and they live to tell. Now, you may be wondering, who will live to tell? The ones I loved and the ones who love me. – My dear friends, future kids, and the many future ones who will be. Noticeably, I do not include my future husband in this lot. I cannot bear the thought of him painfully remembering the joys of the life we co-created as he seeps into the trough of loss.
Now, please rest assured that this is not a teary piece! How could we go down a dreary path when we just started a new year with balloons and bubbles?! 😊 Let us proceed with an optimistic beat and envisage the future from an enchanting viewpoint!
The boulevard of dreams
A stint ago, I stopped making New Year resolutions and adopted a new practice. I call it Dreaming for the New Year and beyond. The approach resonates as my dreams spring instantly, but they are realized over several years and lived through many. For example, I do not dream of a wedding day. That day symbolizes a happy yet stressful event that will pass faster than it came. As I do not live for events, I dream of an enjoyable and impactful life with my life partner. – The fruit of noble vows written on papyrus, etched in the heart, and destined to last forever.
Indeed, rarely are my dreams confined to a year. Like a seed in the soil, a dream takes root in my heart. Then, I must make a choice. Shall I endeavor to bring it to fruition, let it lay dormant, or allow it to rot?
In 2025, I am dreaming, and here are three special dreams:
– Support another in realizing their long-awaited dream.
– Partner to bring a long-nurtured vision to life.
– Fulfill a specific pre-destined life mission.
Understandably, the dreams above may seem elusive to you. However, as they are nested in my heart, to me, they are as clear as day. Also, as I reflected on each, I realized they all lead to the same end. But I do not know what the final picture looks like. And when the dream will come to fruition is not for me to say. The owner of time will tell. God will tell.
As a resident of Earth and a student of life, I am learning to live and thrive in a world that feels more foreign than home.
A shared experience
Fellow explorer: herein lies the wonder of dreaming! Dreaming is like endeavoring to traverse a boulevard in a foreign land. With the right gear and know-how, we feel ready to embark and poised to succeed. But who knows when exactly we will get to the other side? We need others to do their part! – To wait for us, see us, and call out to us, or hold our hand. It is an adventure, and the anticipation keeps our hearts beating and hoping.
For you, last year might have been thrilling! Or perhaps it was riddled with disappointment. Fortunately, this is a new dawn! In light of this, in 2025, I hope you shed the cobwebs of yesteryear and dream with gusto for yourself and others. Ultimately, I hope you dance as you traverse the boulevard of dreams. And along the way, remember to make a friend or two.
So long.
For you and to you,
Aké
